TEA DANCES
After the destruction of Mellor Mill by fire in 1892, the
millponds that now form the Roman
Lakes were transformed
into a late nineteenth century pleasure resort. Hordes of
visitors came from the surrounding towns to go boating on
the lake, play little penny slot machines, visit the
tearooms and to take part in quite genteel tea dances.
These early tea dances in the 1920s, 30s and 40s have proved
the inspiration for our monthly live music events. Though
the original dances were open air and could boast a large
dance floor and full Roman Lakes Orchestra, our modern-day
Tea Dances are a more modest affair and, for the winter
months at least, have been taking place undercover within
the Roman Lakes Tea Rooms.

TEA DANCE PROGRAMME 2022
The dances
have been running since September 2012 – always the last
Saturday of the month – and we have been fortunate enough to
host some wonderful bands from the UK and further abroad.
Tickets are
£16 each and include an evening meal. There is also a raffle
with funds going to the Friends
of Our Valley community
group that do work within the valley.
Guests are
invited to bring their own alcohol, glasses provided. We ask
everyone to arrive at 5.30pm to allow time to be seated. We
dine at 7pm and the evening concludes around 8.30/9pm.
When booking
please advise of any food allergies or dietary requirements.
Each dance
has been fully attended, with tickets selling out
increasingly quickly, so pre-booking is essential to ensure
a place. 0161-427 2039
