Accessing the Roman Lakes by Bus & Foot:
From Marple
From Marple: The bus stop on Oldknow Road, opposite St Martins Road, will drop you off just north of Faywood Drive. The St Martins Road stop is supported by the 375, 384, 383 and 358. The 375: Mellor – Marple – Hawk Green – Offerton – Stockport. The 384: Marple – Romiley – Stockport. The 383: Marple – Bredbury – Stockport. The 358: Stockport and Marple – New Mills & Hayfield. From the bus stop, head south down Oldknow Road, crossing over the junction of Arkwright Road and Oldknow Road onto Faywood Dive. From Faywood Drive go down the steep hill of Lakes Road, with the railway line to your right and woodland to your left. At the bottom of the hill cross over the stone bridge that crosses the river. As the road curves round keep going straight (do not turn left) and you will come up to a T-junction in front of a large Georgian House. Turn right in front of the Georgian House. You will see the main lake, tea rooms etc on your left a little further along.
From Strines
On Strines Road, Marple, there is a bus stop by the Nightingale pub. The 358: Stockport and Marple – New Mills & Hayfield. From the bus stop, approximately 250 yards north of the Nightingale pub turn sharply downhill following the footpath into Barlow Wood, heading past Lumb House and Lumb House Barn towards the Roman Bridge. Cross over the pretty Roman Bridge that spans the River Goyt and follow the footpath up to Lakes Road, bearing left towards the Roman Lakes with the River Goyt to your left. The Roman Lakes main lake site is approximately ½ mile further along the track on your right.
